back to Germany - back at home

Seit gut einem Monat bin ich wieder zurück in Deutschland und ich muss zugeben, dass ich die ersten zwei Wochen hier einen totalen Durchhänger hatte. Und das trotz meiner freiwilligen Rückkehr nach fast zwei Jahren in Kopenhagen, weil ich so großes Heimweh nach Bayern hatte. Jetzt passt aber wieder alles.

Aber - wie immer kommt das große Aber - nun bin ich in der Situation, dass ich Kopenhagen vermisse und vor allem meine Freunde dort.

Deswegen ist hier meine Top Ten Liste "was ich von Kopenhagen vermisse" :-)

Platz 1 - die Fahrradwege

Als sehr aktiver Fahrradfahrer in Deutschland kann man (zumindest hier in der Kleinstadt) nur von solchen Wegen mit System und Ordnung nur träumen.

Platz 2 - die Kinderfreundlichkeit

Ich bin zwar kinderlos, aber trotzdem finde ich es zum Teil schrecklich wie Deutsche auf Kinder reagieren (z.B. im Supermarkt, Restaurant usw.). Die Dänen lieben Kinder und es stört sie überhaupt nicht, was da Kinder gerade für einen Lärm machen (auch wenn es NICHT ihre eigenen sind).

Platz 3 - die absolut hübschen Männer

Tja, dazu muss ich nicht viel sagen :-) ... außer, dass ein mancher Typ hier in Deutschland sich mal an den dänischen Männern ein Beispiel nehmen könnte - klamotten- und styling-technisch.

Platz 4 - die Standhaftigkeit bei kaltem Wetter

Wir Deutschen sind ja im Herbst und Winter schon oft faule Schweine und fahren die kürzesten Wege mit dem Auto. Nicht so in Kopenhagen. Da werden auch bei -10 Grad und Schneefall die 8 Kilometer zur Arbeit mit dem Fahrrad zurückgelegt. Vermummt bis zum geht nicht mehr, aber eben mit Ausdauer und Trotz.

Platz 5 - 'Hygge' mit Freunden

Ja ja, das gemütliche Zusammensein mit Freunden ... das war schon was in Kopenhagen.

Platz 6 - Mode und Geschmack

Dazu muss ich auch nicht viel sagen. In Kopenhagen leben einfach hippe Menschen :-)

Platz 7 - Dänisch reden

Ich bin tatsächlich nach Kopenhagen, um Dänisch zu lernen. Nach ca. sieben Monate ging mir das Dänisch reden dann irgendwie ein bisschen auf die Nerven, weil ich an einem Punkt war, an dem ich dachte, ich kann nicht mehr Dänisch lernen. Diese Phase habe ich natürlich hinter mir. Mein Dänisch ist ziemlich gut (ich glaube, ich kann das von mir behaupten, denn ich unterrichte bald hier in Deutschland Dänisch in der Volkshochschule). Tja, und nun bin ich hier in meiner Kleinstadt in Bayern und kein Däne weit und breit ist da mit dem ich Dänisch quatschen könnte.

Platz 8 - 7eleven

Leider muss ich zugeben, dass diese blöden, sauteueren 7eleven-Läden an jeder Ecke, die rund um die Uhr geöffnet sind, sehr praktisch sind und ich mir manchmal denke: "Ach ja, holen wir das Zeugs halt schnell beim 7eleven ... ach nee, gibt's hier ja bei uns nicht."

Platz 9 - gesünderer Lebensstil

Meiner Meinung nach kann man in Kopenhagen schon einen sehr gesunden Lebensstil führen. Alle sind total verrückt nach Bio und so n Zeugs und jeder radelt sich fit :-)

Platz 10 - Freibier dank Bayern

Als deutsches Mädel kommt man bei dänischen Jungs eigentlich immer gut an. Wenn man aber noch erzählt, dass man aus Bayern ist, kriegt man so gut wie immer Bier spendiert in den Bars. Natürlich nimmt jeder an, dass man automatisch aus München kommt, mit Dirndl den ganzen Tag rumläuft und total der FC Bayern München Fan ist und wenn die dann auch schon drei Bier hatten, fangen sie an ihr schlechtes Schuldeutsch daher zu labern ... aber hey, scheiß drauf - Freibier :-) Da darf man sich nicht beschweren bei den Preisen in Kopenhagen.

So, das war meine Liste. Ich denke, es wird mir mein Leben lang so gehen, dass ich den Ort vermisse, an dem ich nicht gerade bin, aber wenn ich dann doch dort bin, wird mein Heimweh wieder sehr groß. Deswegen ist reisen wohl die beste Medizin für mich.

For well a month have I been back to Germany and I must admit that I had a complete bad patch here during the first two weeks though I came back by choice after almost two years’ time in Copenhagen. Being homesick and missing Bavaria, however, was too much but now everything is fine again.

But – the big but – now I am in this situation where I miss Copenhagen, especially my friends there.

Therefore I made a top ten list of things that I miss about Copenhagen :-)

No. 1 – the cycle paths

Since I am a very active cyclist, I can only dream of such paths with system and order in Germany (at least here in this small town).

No. 2 - the child-friendly society

I may be childless but I find it partly horrible how Germans react to children (e.g. at the supermarket, restaurant, and so on). The Danes love kids and do not mind at all even when they are noisy (even if they are not their own children).

No. 3 - the utterly pretty men

Well, I do not have a lot to say about this :-) ... except for that some guy here in Germany could follow the Danish men's example regarding clothes and styling.

No. 4 – the persistence when it is cold outside

We Germans are rather lazy pigs in autumn and winter and take the car for the shortest distances. But that is not the case in Copenhagen. Even if there are -10 degrees and snowfall, the 8 kilometres to work is covered by bike. Everyone is hooded to the max but they simply do it with stamina and resistance.

No. 5 - 'Hygge' with friends

Oh yes, the cozy being together with friends ... that was quite something in Copenhagen.

No. 6 - fashion and taste

There is not much to tell about. There are simply cool people in Copenhagen.

No. 7 - speaking Danish

I actually moved to Copenhagen to learn Danish. After about seven months, I was somehow a bit tired of speaking Danish since I came to a point where I thought I could not learn any more Danish. I left this phase behind me, of course. My Danish is quite good (I think I can say this about myself because I am soon starting to teach Danish here in Germany). Well, and now I am here in my Bavarian small town and there is no Dane in sight with whom I can jaw some Danish.

No. 8 - 7eleven

Unfortunately, I have to admit that these stupid, bloody expensive 7eleven shops at every turn are very convenient. Sometimes I think “Let’s get the stuff at the next 7eleven … oh no, there is not a shop here.”

No. 9 - healthier lifestyle

In my opinion, one can maintain a very healthy lifestyle in Copenhagen since everyone is totally mad about organic food and so on and everyone keeps in shape by cycling.

No. 10 - free beer thanks to Bavaria

German girls go basically always down well with Danish guys. If you, however, tell them that you are from Bavaria, you will as good as always get treated to a beer at the bars. Of course, everyone assumes that you are automatically from Munich, dressed in a Dirndl every day and are a big fan of FC Bayern München. And after they had had their third beer, they start to speak their bad German they learned at school … but hey, bollocks to that – it’s freebeer :-) One should not complain keeping the prices in Copenhagen in mind.

Well, that was my list. I think that all my life, I will miss the place where I am not right now but when I am there after all, my homesickness will again become very huge. Therefore, travelling will be the best cure for me.
